loraine.png

Lorraine Kolasa’s jewelry is a combination of textiles and metalsmithing. Transformation and recontextualization aremajor themes in her work, accomplished by casting handmade lace into metal, turning embroidery into armor, and more. Her jewelry emphasizes the preciousness of traditional fiber crafts, while her larger body pieces emphasize their protective qualities and the important role they’ve played—and continue to play—in countless lives. These crafts are heritage; they’re culture; they’re therapy, both physical and mental; they’re warmth from the cold, both literal and metaphorical; most of all, they’re worthy of respect and celebration.

“Food. Fire. Friends. Better Together.” Having Down syndrome has never stopped Matthew from pursuing his passion of using food and fire to bring people together. The life-changing experiences of going to college at Western Carolina University and training at the award-winning Haywood Smokehouse, inspired him to launch his first line of BBQ sauces.  These hand-crafted sauces are bold and flavorful and truly make a difference. Matthew has a burning passion about disability awareness and expanding opportunities for all. A portion of the proceeds from his sauces goes to the UP Program at his alma mater and Ruby’s Rainbow that provides scholarships to individuals with Down syndrome.
